It's not whether the shop would allow you to use their restroom, it's how they approach not letting you use the restroom...
Directing you to the nearest restroom with an apology for not having a public restroom is one thing... Blowing you off with a "we don't have a public restroom".... in a rude and/or loud voice is another. Good for you, Greg, for standing up for a bit of civility, if not for public restrooms in stores.

I also worked at a shop with no public restroom - it was an art/frame shop, and the restroom for the employees was in the work area - lots of liability for letting customers go back there with sharp tools, saws, and expensive artwork.

What vicrock said. Plus it's a theft deterrent. If they let people use the restrooms, people would take products into the restroom, remove any security devices, shove the goods in their pocket and flush the rest, or put the rest in the trash.
When I worked retail, it was not uncommon for me to have to dig through the bathroom trash to get the evidence. When low-income apartments went in a few blocks a way, I ended up spending much of my time fending off shoplifters. The bathroom tactic was one. Another was to put small, expensive goods inside of large, cheap goods. Then buy the large one. If the alarm went off when they tried to go out, they would show their receipt and if the person checking it didn't check inside whatever they got, the thief got away. GameStop type stores probably have a high attempt rate on theft. I'm sure they use just about every legal method of preventing shoplifting.

you should have peed in the corner of your store and said "there's your public restroom!"

Homeless people are the problem. They should be provided better by the public however shooting up is a good use of these private rooms also. I wish them better.

[quote Greg the dogsitter]- as dinner hadn't been too long ago - I asked to use the restroom, first.
I was told "We don't have any public restrooms." GtDS, "Soooooo... Where do you go?" heh. Then you know if the store has no facilities or if they are just being non-neighborly.

[quote Greg the dogsitter]I'm wondering what the customer with an upset stomach is supposed to do.
vomiting is legal, but urinitaing or spitting in public is usually against the law. |
