I don't necessarily think that's the case, but the point is that Reuters will take a minority or a minority of a minority, (especially among Jews) and project them as exemplifying the entire Jewish population...which is slanted nonsense and they know it. It has been pointed out to them many times over the years.

I agree with Steve that "bonfire" is not the best word choice for the caption. If the writer had delved into the meaning of this ritual a bit, and the etymology of that particular word, she likely would have rephrased that. That was a missed opportunity.
I find the photo interesting. I'm glad to live in a country where everyone can practice their faith openly in this manner. I would hope that the subjects all gave their consent to Reuters but since they are in public that isn't required. It's a time of year when we think a lot about religious symbols and rituals, and I think that photos such as this are worthy of notice and reporting.

There's a lot of photos in those Holy Week galleries that are very peculiar. The people with the purple hoods that look like klan hoods especially. I think it's looking for insults to take one photo out of context and try to pretend that everybody thinks it's a typical day in the life.
Edit: anybody who's watched any Woody Allen comedy knows that there are Ultra-Orthodox Jews.

and yet, that is exactly what Reuters does with their rare 'Jewish' shots.

I guess if I saw one photo of a group of religious people during an annual religious activity, I would assume that that one image is not representative of how those people behave all year round.
Because, you know, I have a brain.
Edit: would you like an equal number of photos of Orthodox Jews walking down the sidewalk to temple on a typical Friday evening to 'balance the portrayal'? I think you're taking your journalistic ethics arguments a little too literally.

Just wait - if this thread goes long enough, Steve G. will post the greatest outrage of all - a Reuters photo of a so-called "innocent" Palestinian child. Doing whatever. The point is, the photo will not convey how deeply anti-Semitic that child is, and what a threat they are - or will be - to peace and security in Israel.
