Gutter guards
#11
Problem with my gutters is they are not wide enough -- in heavy rain the water runs off the edge of the rook and over the lip of the gutter. Stupid ass cheap track home. Every house in my hood has the same issue.

I ended up getting a wire version rather than plastic -- I could bend it to fit under the roof shingle and over the gutter.

Its keeping the leaves out, and we have tons of trees so it helps with that part... but not sure I can do anything about the water running over.

FWIW I'm installing the kind with ultra fine mesh. We have a couple of large pine trees near the house and a couple of deciduous trees a few feet away. Its costing me about $9 per four foot section. They just slide into place, no screws required although that seems to be a happy accident between our gutters and shingles.

Seems to me that the ultra fine mesh variety should handle most cases pretty well. fancy one piece options only make sense when you're installing all new gutters.

I find the advice regarding cleaning to be odd - but maybe some places get a lot of dust? IMO, you don't need to keep _everything_ out of the gutters, just avoid clogs.I'm optimistic that I'll inspect them occasionally but cleanings will be rare.

Another factor is the size of the gutters and downspouts themselves. Bigger is better because they clear quicker, which helps to avoid clogs.

I live in a grove of pine trees. I will bet money there is no gutter guard that will keep out pine needles. And you'll be left pulling out all of the vertical ones out by hand.

Have plastic Homies type. Good for a bout 5 yrs in the NE.
I think next I'd get the steel ones that bow up a teense.
But them f'n pine needles! What is the point!?!?!

We put the first type PDQ showed and they do work. The problem is the outside of the gutter face
is now black and grimy, they look terrible. At least we only put them on the gutter on the patio,
we will not be putting anymore on the rest of the house. The other gutters look fine. Just have
to deal with cleaning them out, rather clean them out than clean the outside of the gutters every
3-6 months.

These might let the really fine particles through instead of over the edge of the gutter and that
might prevent the buildup on the face but the particles are going to buildup in the gutter and
then you have to clean them out.

I bought a bunch of them at a garage sale a while back. Next time I'm on the roof, I'll put them on

We have big leaves, pine needles and red cedar trees. I've never seen a gutter that
didn't have some amount black particle crap in them. I can take a picture tomorrow
if you'd like to see what gutter covers are doing to my covered gutters.
