Michael Buble: I figured out why I don't like his voice
#11
That was a good video. I think his charm is how real he appears. We've watched many of his christmas video's and he just seems like a regular guy. His wife is a real beauty. That can be good and it can be bad. I wish him the best.

One of the comments on the video page: "Michael Buble is the modern day Frank Sinatra". Yep. But I don't hate him as much as I hate "Frankie". But his singing style is the same... almost just monotone talking over music.

Buble and Harry Connick Jr. both strike my as performers who are singing to entertain my parents’ generation - despite being much, much younger - not to their own.

I took my Mom and my wife to see him, and if you think he is monotone, you might need to listen to more of him (he can fricken' wail). He's not my thing, but man, that guy can sing. He had a deal where the P.A. shut off mid song so just his unamplified voice was present, and it was impressive. He was also super gracious and personable. I thought his voice was autotuned, but he did the carpool karaoke thing and sounded that way, so I don't think so. He talks about his kid having cancer, so it's a little bit of a downer, but pretty interesting.

I'm ok with Buble.

Not a big fan, but I like him on occasion, and I'd say it's mainly because I'm not really an 'easy listening' guy.

I don't eschew the genre, it's just not a very large part of my listening repertoire.

That said, I'm a huge Sinatra fan.

I know Sinatra (no not personally) and Buble is no Sinatra.

But my musical tastes are broad enough that there's plenty of room for both.

The 'lack of texture' is in fact texture of it's own, the same way vanilla is a flavor, not a lack of one.

It's surprising how many people get that wrong.

I thought autotune as well, also thought it might be my laptop speakers. Not a fan of that sound, or those who have taken it up as a desirable vocal quality.

This thread reminds me of the story of the elephant and the three blind men, where each of the blind men touches a different part of the elephant and comes away with a different idea of what an elephant was, all of them getting it wrong because of the limited scope of their exposure to the elephant.

He's got no range nor dynamics, although he does have a very smooth voice for thr range he possesses.

and his wife... oy!

Who is featured prominently in that very video. https://youtu.be/1AJmKkU5POA I heard he met her on that shoot.
I prefer the alternate version… https://youtu.be/YjaZNYSt7o0

Don't forget Jimmy Fallon's SNL Xmas impression of Buble:

"jingle bells...jingle bells...over-pronouncing all the words..."
