Cybertruck sales figures
#11
I think there's a large number or people who think they want one and as soon as they see the actual truck and it's price, they wake up.

I've seen, I think, three in passing. One in San Diego at the end of March.

Two in the greater Chicagoland area, on the highway or major arterial roads where I don't get a chance to really look at it. Each time I do see one, I kind of feel like reality is glitching because it just looks like something out of a late 1980s video game trying to look 3D.

I "see" a decent number of Cybertrucks. To me, it's like people buying the 20th Anniversary Mac. It was basically a statement. I don't know if they actually plan to sell hoards of them.
Yes, I'm sure they didn't want to sell very many.
They couldn't have expected to sell that many of them.
They clearly never expected to sell F150 numbers. Lots of cars are sold without the expectation they will sell huge numbers. Hyundai doesn’t expect to sell as many Elantra N cars as Toyota sells corollas. Toyota doesn’t expect to sell a lot of GR cars, but they still make them. I assume they have reasons.

Ford sells ICE and EV versions of the 150.

The EV is only 3% of the ICE sales.

Only 2000 sold in April 2024.

I think the real value to Tesla of the Cybertruck is the engineering advances they used for that vehicle including the 48V electrical. It sets them up for full upgrades across the board that could handle improvements in battery technology.

I'll let the rest opine on the aesthetics, it's captured a lot of threads already on MRF!

I saw that after the initial first sales hysteria that only 4000 sold in that blitz. 11K to date fits that nicely. I gotta think that just about everyone in the country that wanted one, now has one and demand is gonna sink like a stone.

We saw one parked when we were biking in a Civil War battlefield park last week. We stopped and I looked carefully to see if I could see any of the reported rust spots. Didn't see any.

But the thing is just butt-ugly, to me!

I've yet to be impressed looking at a Tesla in terms of materials
but HOLY CRAP are those things already rusting???

Old Elon must be using a seriously crap grade of stainless if they are already having rust issues. Rust? Are you sure?

Stainless is like a being unto itself. It can be a serious pain in the butt to live with.
