Show of hands. How many people think airstrikes is a legitimate response to Hamas' slow-walking the release of hostages?
Peace talks shmeace talks. This was Netanyahu's plan all along. He said from day one he wanted to extinguish every member of Hamas. (Even though he knew quite well that was an impossible mission.) The only reason he went into negotiations, was to get as many hostages out as he could before he finished the job.

Don’t have the link right now, but I read a far-right wing former member of Netanyahu’s coalition, who had withdrawn previously, rejoined because Netanyahu bombed.
Seems he was opposed to any cessation of hostilities. He’s happy now.

Israel defence minister warns Hamas ‘rules of the game have changed’
Hamas must “understand that the rules of the game have changed”, Israel’s defence minister said, after Israel unleashed its deadliest strikes on Gaza since a ceasefire began in January.
“If it does not immediately release all the hostages, the gates of hell will open, and it will face the full might of the IDF (military) in the air, sea, and on the ground until its complete destruction,” the Israeli defence chief added.
