for the biggest show of the year -- announcements were lackluster
the movie rental market is already crowded with enough players already -- heck, even comcast has the same service for the same price -- including HD movies, and its instant on too

What Chupa said. There will be lots of great news when Apple's quarterly results are announced shortly. I might be temped to buy some more AAPL this week, actually.
Analysts have said that Mac sales are up a minimum of 40% year-over-year for the holiday quarter, and could be up even more. I think Apple still looks great long term, though a widespread recession would put a big damper on things.
Even Apple can't deliver a product as game-changing as the iPhone every year. Anyone who expects them to is just delusional.

I think many said the same thing about the iPhone (replace movie rental references with smart phone references).
This decade Apple has made a living not being the first to the table but seeing what others have done and doing it better -- much better.
I suspect that movie rentals will be very successful for Apple, and may be what it takes to finally sell iTV boxes.
The announcements may not have been groundbreaking but they were important. I think that Apple is in very good shape for the longs.
However, the overall market is taking a pronounced bearish turn, which may last 12-18 months. I am definitely not a buyer.

Is the MacBook Air the thinnest laptop ever? That's pretty amazing. Not "game changing", but still a pretty big announcement if it is.

[quote maco]How low do you think it will go over the next couple of days? $158.03 right now. Typo on the street.com, they show AAPL falling to: $116.95.
I think they're full of shite--it'll fall to $116.93.

Apple was priced short-term based on the assumption they would deliver everything we heard at macworld PLUS a multi-touch tablet or a wifimax product.
As such, the price needed correction.
I believe Apple decided to postpone releasing a product that was not yet ready to go and focused on 3 software updates (yes, the wireless NES was a software and not a hardware product) plus the 'air'.

There was a comment about the AppleTV in the macrumors coverage of the keynote which I think is extremely interesting: "Podcasts are available in audio and video format, as well as photos from Flikr and .Mac and sync with iTunes." I don't have a TV and rarely go to the cinema or bother with DVDs - very unvisual person so my comments may be way-off.
I think this is a massively important announcement: if this means what I think it does, anyone with an internet connection can now effectively produce their own tv shows for a worldwide audience. Call it podTV if you like. I don't think podcasts were something anyone expected, yet they are becoming ever more ubiquitous. Now we have PodCastTV. I think this could be the turning point for the AppleTV and a completely new market. New market - more customers - aapl on the up.

It's only down about 20% off it's alltime high. These corrections are normal.
I think it has a good deal farther to fall before it's done, but it's not the end of the world. Well... probably not...
