joe the media whore's question only served to assert a number of falsehoods.
first, very few small business owners make more than $250k/yr.
second, if the small business made more than $250k/yr., increased taxes would have a small affect the ability to hire. hiring is an expense and taxes are assessed on profits _after_ expenses.
its quite clear that joe is concerned about issues that will never affect him directly.

Isn't it interesting that the same media that is yet to uncover a single fact about Obama's life on its own, in a matter of days found out that the plumber is not licensed(irrelevant to the discussions), has a tax lien on his house(how can strangers find out about your tax liens I wonder) and now voter registration. How many privacy laws do you have to violate to get to these gems? The same media has no interest in finding what he did in college, what his writing were and what he did in Chicago.

Tax liens are public records, so is licensure and voter registration. Takes violating no laws to find out that information at all, just a very small amount of foot work. So maybe you have to go and rethink your argument? As for not finding out a single fact by itself, that is false too.

Because there is nothing, at least not the dirt you crave, unless you want to learn about constitutional law or community organizing. You want facts about Obama's life, and McCain as well?
Frontline -The Choice
BTW, tax liens are public information, feel free to look up Obama's real estate records through the county and see if there are tax liens.

Hey Dakota,
Joe's question would have faded into the mist with all the other questions candidates answer if McCain hadn't dragged him into the spotlight by referring to him 10 or 15 times during the debate. If Joe was vetted by the press, it was because McCain set him up for it.

Here in Chicago we know all the dark secrets, but we had a meeting and decided we weren't going to tell anyone.

Dakota, how is the fact that Joe the Plumber is not, in fact, a plumber, irrelevant to the discussion? Let's recap.
1. A guy who is not who he says he is
2. Asks a question about taxes that is not based in reality and
3. Turns out not to pay taxes anyway, but
4. Gets a sincere and truthful answer from the candidate.
And you want to use that against the candidate.

You're focusing on the messenger and not the message. Regardless of who asked and the circumstances surrounding that person, it is still a valid question that is relevant to some people.

Karsen, if Joe the Plumber had asked the question honestly, then Obama could have answered his question honestly and told him that he would benefit greatly under the Obama tax plan. But Joe the Plumber was not honest; he asked a question that was calculated to trip Obama up. Furthermore, Joe, who comes from a long line of Republican operatives, knew his question did not reflect the truth about his situation. Therefore it is relevant.
Three percent of small business owners would pay more under the Obama tax plan. Small businesses simply do not bring that much money in as a rule. McCain & Co. routinely, and cynically, gloss over the difference between "income" and "revenues." A business that has over $250,000 in revenues would not bring in $250,000 in income.
The whole situation with Joe the Plumber is fundamentally dishonest.

Public record, huh? OK, I want to find out about YOUR tax liens, voter registration data, child support info and whether you have received welfare. It must be straightforward then. How do I do it?
