Pete, you know better than that. Joe the Plumber's Helper^® is a grown man. The Obama and Palin children are children, and are off limits. Not that that matters to many of the right wing screamers like Rush Limbaugh, who repeatedly tried to humiliate Chelsea Clinton on the air.

The only "controvery" I ever heard regarding Chelsea and the media was when she would not do an interview with a child reporter. This happened during the primaries when she was out stumping for her mom. I don't remember the date. Oh, and the horrible questions she was asked about her dad and the Lewinsky thing. I thought the media was very insensitive on that.

How 'bout we look at the transcript? Rush's "No, no, no. That's not the kid" indicates to me that there was some kind of screw up and Limbaugh never intended to equate Chelsea to a dog.

And if you'll note he was commenting on an article in the NY Daily News written by David Hinkley who was talking about the (Bush's) cute dog, Millie, leaving the White House, and the (Clinton's) cute kid, Chelsea, coming in.

So someone screwed up the pictures. BFD! I really don't think Limbaugh was raggin' on Chelsea.

Mother Jones is a magazine. It's a lefty magazine, but it's well respected. Molly Ivins tells the truth. Still, if you google "Rush Limbaugh Chelsea Clinton" you will get another 30 or so references to the same incident, plus a few others. Not that you would bother.

I saw them, G., but most took their lead from Molly Ivens who failed to quote the transcript and put the gaff in context. But her story sounded better to them and it was probably easier to quote her than go dig up the transcript and do any factual reporting.
