Jones-Kelly should be fired - but more for using her government email account for partisan political activity than for the searches of JtP's information.
Swampy you sure do seem to be worked up about this abuse of government power. How are you feeling about the very real possibility of the Bush justice department being manipulated to send an innocent former governor and political rival to jail. In the last thread related to this you hadn't given it much thought. Surely if you really are upset about abuse of government power, you would be more upset about that than you would be about Ohio database searches where the investigator concluded, "All these searches were done in the midst of a national political campaign," the report said. "But we did not find any evidence that shows the data was accessed or information released in response to media requests in an effort to support any political activity or agenda."

Ted... "But we did not find any evidence that shows the data was accessed or information released in response to media requests in an effort to support any political activity or agenda."
No direct link to be sure, but they did find plently of abuse (If you read the PDF I linked). I can relate to JTP. Guy on the street. Not seeking any fame or fortune, but finds himslef pilloried by all the sneak peeking of his records. I find this just as dispicable as any high level governmental abuse of power.

Not that I"m implying that it was okay to snoop on his files - it certainly was not and there should be consequences for it - but I don't see how the two should be considered anywhere near equivalent. Maybe you can relate to this, though: you said in another thread that you don't have a problem with the Patriot Act, but it made it possible for people working in the federal government to listen in on and share with others private conversations where military people serving in Iraq were having "phone sex" with people back home. Certainly that must rate at least as high on your despic-o-meter as what happened to JTP Guy. Or was that another abuse of power done by the federal government during Bush's term that you haven't paid much attention to?

Oh, here's a link just in case you haven't heard about what I was referring to:

Ted,
You don't get it, whatever Bush does or has done is fine with Swampy. Swampy has nothing to hide. When the Nazis came for the communists, Swampy cheered the President; Swampy was not a communist. When they locked up the social democrats, Swampy cheered the President; Swampy was not a social democrat. When they came for the immigrants, Swampy cheered the President; Swampy was not an immigrant. When they came for the Jews, Swampy wondered what would happen to her favorite bagels, but then she cheered the President; Swampy was not a Jew and could still eat Wonder Bread. When they came for Swampy, there was a huge gun battle, and Swampy lost. and there was no one left to speak out. ![]() People like Swampy always made me nervous. They let their leadership do whatever they want in the name of national security, but they blame the "government" for snooping. Imagine if a single presidential term was 10 years, Bush would have had two more years to wreck the nation, and Swampy would still be cheering From November 11: ![]() Article: http://www.businessweek.com/blogs/recess...o_the.html "I was on the corner of 42nd Street and Vanderbilt Avenue when I was photographed. Monday, in addition to Grand Central, I was in front of 30 Rockefeller Plaza for about 20 minutes when an NBC doorman and a policeman told me I had to leave because it was private property. Swampy is one of "they" because Swampy is not one of "us".

Well, I guess I can assume conversations with a friend of mine who travels extensively have been caught up in the web of the Patriot act. Still it doesn't bother me. Like I said I have nothing to hide and neither does my friend, Mike. But at least I know in advance that the Patriot Act may subject us to that. I've been forewarned. JTP was not.
Phone sex? So what? Unless the Feds joined in for a managé. That would be a little intrusive. LOL

NM "...Swampy is one of "they" because Swampy is not one of "us"."
You got that right.

In fact, you think using the intimate affairs of soldiers - who are making huge personal sacrifices - as a source of fun deserves no more than a "LOL"? And using government power to send an innocent political opponent to jail is worth no more than a shrug. But simply inappropriately accessing JTP's files and doing nothing with the information is somehow so despicable that it's worth bringing up again and again? Good grief, it's hard not to conclude that you have an almost unlimited ability to rationalize what you don't want to accept - just as some others have suggested.

Okay, Ted... I'm calling you out. Give me a major news source who has reported such abuse and "sharing/yucking up intimate conversations".
These soldiers and their families do sacrifice (been there, done that a few times), but they have volunteered to do it. They know the cost, and god bless them, the do it anyway. All abuse of power is verboten in my book, Ted. I just don't view the Patriot Act as an abuse of power. I'm not paranoid about it like some people. |
