President-elect to Travel by Train to Inaugural Weekend
#11
Looks like politicians these days are riding Amtrak all the way to the office. First it was Biden, now this.

I think it would be neat if there was a direct route from Philly to Chicago. Better yet, from Baltimore to Chicago. I love to ride the train.

Perhaps we will do a 180 and actually start investing in passenger rail.

Amtrak loses money even in the densest corridor in the nation even though it is sometimes cheaper to just fly. Which "investment" is going to fix that?

I ride Amtrak. Our Governor Arnie was going to do the same, ride Amtrak from San Diego to San Francisco to Sacramento until he found out he'd have to get off the train and take an Amtrak bus to complete the route and he'd have to do that more than once.

S/O and I was going to take a train to Sonoma from Sta Barbara for our one week vacation. Well, after learning that we'd have to take at least two buses from Sac to our final destination, we changed plan.
Recently, S/O wants to take the train to NYC! Gosh, how long will that take? I am all for trains but speedy trains mind ya.

Let's divert 1/10 of the subsidies for automobile infrastructure to passenger rail, and then we'll talk again in 2-3 years.
I love riding Amtrak, and am happy to pay more than for less sustainable modes of travel.

Investing? Amtrak has been at the trough of the government for 40 years. You are talking as if they have been abandoned to fend for themselves. Every favorable condition exists for rail travel in the northeast and they still can't make it. What more do you want us to do?

Not really worth trying to argue with misrepresentations like this.

Typical bail out scheme when someone is left with nothing to say.

To quote another luminary here, is the PM module not working?
