I've got the MagLite-branded LED conversion kit in my decades-old 3D MagLite, and a Cree LED conversion in my StreamLight Stinger. In both cases I think the LED kits outperform the halogen bulbs the flashlights came with. I also have a little pocket-sized Inova 5LED light I bought at Target a couple years ago that is still running fine on its original set of C123 cells.

Home Depot used to have a 4W Husky light - 200 lumens - light up trees 200 yards away.

That candlepower forum is about the geekiest forum I've ever seen...flashlight jocks, who woulda thought!? That said, there's an awful lot (too much) of info on that forum regarding all the different types of high end LED lights. Methinks you're a bit behind the flashlight times, Racer X.

My MagLight was stolen from a cop, along with his ticket book. It has sentimental value. You can crack a skull with a puny plastic LED light, now can you?

When you positively, absolutely need to spend the money:

Charges in seconds, Hypercapacitor.

Cheers!

What a coincidence. I ordered 3 woot flashlights this morning for $35.

They are available for $20 each + shipping from Walmart.

Per my reading, they definitely aren't the same as the much revered maglites, but they are 1/4 the cost of the "comparable" maglite.

I'm just glad I'm going to finally have some decent flashlights around my house. It was really tough relighting my pilot without a flashlight.

Yeah, but they are no MagLight with the optional billy-club buttcap.
