Forget it - I thought you RECORDED it with QuickTime. My mix-up.
Ah, okay. Now I don't feel so stupid anymore!

pinkoos wrote: Yeah, worked fine with VLC. I even burned a DVD of the entire broadcast with Toast Titanium and that worked fine. Just seems to be a problem with QT. I'm at work, but will try to remote in to my Mac at home and d/l, install Perian and see if that fixes it. Yeah, based on that, I'll bet you the audio track is AC3. Quicktime doesn't have a built-in plugin for AC3 audio (although it plays find in DVD Player and iTunes movies); Perian should take care of it.

Will report back once I get a chance to try out Perian.

No luck. Installed Perian (Preference Pane), but didn't restart the computer (should I?).
Then, tried again with QT, but no dice. May have to go the iMovie route, unfortunately, for something so simple. Ugh.

Did you install QuickTime 7 from the "optional installs" with Snow Leopard, or are you trying to play the video file with the QuickTime X app?
If you're not using QuickTime 7, you have no access to your collection of QuickTime components. QuickTime X is pretty useless. Pop your Snow Leopard installer disc in your drive, run the "optional installs.mpkg" installer and install QuickTime 7. If you haven't already installed Rosetta, now's the time for that, too. Then open one of those Tivo files using the QuickTime 7 Player. 'Bet it plays just fine.

Doc wrote: I did install QT 7, so it's there in my Utilities folder. I'm remoting into my Mac right now, so I don't have audio, so I can't tell if QT 7 is working (in terms of the audio). But, I know the QT X is still not working with Perian b/c I trimmed the clip (remotely) and uploaded it to YouTube and there is still no audio. If QT 7 does end up working, is there a Trim feature I can use to trim the 2 minute segment that I want? Thanks.

pinkoos wrote: I know the QT X is still not working with Perian... It wouldn't. QuickTime X is supposed to be able to take advantage of the QuickTime 7 engine when necessary, but in my experience one specifically has to open files with the QuickTime 7 Player in order to resolve playback issues. pinkoos wrote: Not a trim-feature per se. You can make a selection in the timeline and use cut, copy or paste to assemble the finished work... if you have a QuickTime Pro license. If you never purchased a QuickTime Pro license for QuickTime 7, you'll need a workaround such as QTAmateur. http://www.mikeash.com/software/qtamateur/

Okay, I'll try that when I get home. I do have QT Pro, but couldn't figure out how to get the Trim to work.
Thanks again for your help.

Oh! I have to post a correction. There is a trim command in the QuickTime Player.
I forgot about it. 'Never use it. Drag the little start and end brackets in the timeline to designate where you want your clip to begin and end and then the "Trim to Selection" command should be available in the Edit menu.

Doc wrote: I was trying to do something like that, but there was only a single bracket. I couldn't find the two "opposing" triangles. I have the "Trim to Selection" option in the menu, but can't use it b/c I only have a single, "right pointing" triangle. Anyway, getting ready to leave work, so I'll look at it again when I get home. Thanks. |
