You too are welcome good sir
The labbies are my neighbors dogs but I am their human during the day while he's at work. He's a diesel engineer hence their names. His old black lab was named Sparkey (you see the theme here) Smokey is the energizer bunny and will chase the frisbee relentlessly. Diesel is Mr Mellow and just happy to hang out and watch the two girls chase the frisbee. Dazey is just a silly blond girl that goads me out of my chair by bringing me a frisbee or two ... or all three - just so I get the hint that it is time to load my pockets with cookies (milk bones) and go open the gate and run around with her pals. They are the best and good for my disposition and probably my blood pressure too. ![]()

... I made a slight mistake with my Photoshopping ... Dazey could be either eeB_ or eebb, though I'd bet she's eeB_.

PeterB wrote: Peter - the hole in your theory is that Dazey is not a lab but is a Rhodesian Ridgeback mix She is often mistaken for a lab but ridgeback's are a whole different breed. They are a member of the hound group http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhodesian_Ridgeback She is ridgeless & doesn't have the standing whorl of hair down her back, but she has the markings of it. She also has the liver nose and amber eyes which some breeders feel is a regressive gene associated with the lack of a ridge and white markingswhich are undesirable for a show dog but makes her belly just as rubable : - ) She looks very blond in the photo but depending on the light her coat can appear more copper colored. I have a friend with a full yellow lab and when they are together Dazey looks very red/copper The "mix" part is up for grabs -could be yellow lab, but she lacks many of the classic lab traits - she hates the water and the cold and her hair is very short and soft and not thick and waterproof like the lab. Also no webbed feet or dew claw either. Prefers to lay in the sun like her African ancestors . (no problems with lions in the yard since I got her either) She is a dog of few barks but when she does let lose you know that there is a good reason. : -)

I was only using the photo for informational purposes.

OK - from the link I thought it was lab specific - but I see it is a genetics thing
: - )

Actually it pretty much is Lab-specific, if you are talking about yellow, chocolate, black Labs...
But on the other hand, the principles (epistasis) are fairly universal, and so depending on what color(s) Ridgebacks come in, the same principles may apply to them as to the Labs. |
