After looking at all the front loading washers, Mavis and I decided that with the pedestals that raised them to a decent height the cost was just too high. Because we live in a second floor condo we had to have one of the newest models with a special suspension that would negate vibration, another feature that raised the cost.

We were replacing a top loading Maytag that was over twenty years old and we had been very happy with it, so when we saw Maytag's new top loading HE model we were sold! It has every feature we were looking for:

Maytag® Commercial Technology, Extended warranty: 10-year warranty on the washer motor and wash basket, 5.0 cu.ft. I.E.C capacity, Smooth Balance™ Suspension System with Superior Vibration Control (SVC), Power Wash Cycle, ENERGY STAR®, Sensi-Care™ Wash System with IntelliClean™ Impeller, NSF Certified Sanitary with Oxi cycle, Clean Boost option with 1,200-watt heater, MaxExtract™ Extended Spin Option, Wide-Opening Lid with SmoothClose™ Hinge and Commercial-Grade Glass Window, Stainless Steel Wash Basket, QuietSeries™ Sound Package, Automatic detergent, bleach, fabric softener and Oxi dispensers, Add-a-garment indicator, Extra Rinse Option, Whites cycle, 14 Wash cycles, Water Save spray rinse option, Delay Start option, Adjustable End-of-Cycle Signal and a Last cycle recall.

The dryer is also full of great features and has an even bigger capacity (a huge 7.3 cu. ft!), which we have taken advantage of many times with sheets, blankets, comforters and towels.

We've used these units for six months now and we're very happy with our choice. They do everything we could ask of a washer and dryer and the fact that we don't have to stoop to load the washer is something that both of our senior bones appreciate. We bought the plain white finish which we preferred and liked that it was less expensive than the colored models. I do have to say that the colors did look great to me. One feature I really like is the glass lid which allows me to see the washer's actions. The new technology is interesting to watch as it goes through the cycles.

Definitely a recommendation from us. BTW, so far we've never used the steam features on both the washer and dryer, so you might save money by getting the model without the steam.

I hope this is helpful in your search, volcs0.
