Some techs put the traps on the line. Most don't bother. silvarios is right on that one. Especially if the 'tech' is a contractor; they hate breaking out the ladder & safety harness when they're being paid per install location.

:dunno: perhaps I'm off the mark here, but I'm just curious in what areas of the country is this happening? Perhaps those reporting loss of services might post their location.

Just happened here last week (Reading, PA). I have 2 of their "free" boxes and a Digital DVR. However, I have 5 TV's that get used on a regular basis. The crappy part, ok, ONE of the crappy parts, is that the Toshiba flat panel in the bedroom with an internal QAM tuner is now worthless for OTA HD when hooked up to that stupid little box. Is there a not-expensive splitter solution for that?

If your TV gets the output from the box on a HDMI/component input, you should be able to get an inexpensive ($3 to $10) 2-way splitter. Run one to the box and one to the TV. Just switch between HDMI and ANT/cable to select.

I've been thinking about trying to rig up a way to switch between them using an A/B Switch and a splitter before the DTA box with one output going to the to the DTA and the other going to the A input of the A/B Switch. And the output of the DTA going to the B input of the A/B switch, and the output of the A/B switch going to the TV.

It would be fairly painful to use with remote controls, you would need to manually flip a switch, and then tune using your TV tuner instead of the DTA tuner. Something like a Harmony remote might help switching between controlling the two different tuners once the manual switch is flipped, or you would need to use two separate remotes.
