[quote Ammo]I'm curious - if you added up the cost of an equivelant (sp?) iPod, an advanced-featured cell phone, and a 2-year mobile contract, what would you have to pay?
I think the conveinence of purchasing all of these things at once may appeal to a lot of people too. Of course, this assumes that everything works as advertised.
I didn't get the impression that the $499 actually included the 2 year contract. If you did, I think you're sadly mistaken.

With no new OS announced, no new iLife announced, and no new computers configurations announced, I'd say the whole thing was pretty ho-hum. Apple won't be getting any of my $ for quite a while, but I would have gone for Leopard or iLife 07.

I scoffed the iPod. That understood, I think for once, Stevie is right in his hyperbole--iPhone really does look like a revolutionary product.

Just been looking at the iPhone demo on Apple.com [ www.apple.com]
I have to say that seeing the demo has made my mouth water. I am struggling with the cumbersome and slow interface of the Palm OS on my new Treo 700P. My previous Palm device, a Sony Clie´ was far easier to use, btw.
At this point, if I could afford it and there were other provider choices, I would go for it in a flash. It's definitely a well thought out design and seems very intuitive.
As I always say, "that's just my opinion, I could be wrong."

In 3 years this thing will be everywhere with mulitple models on multiple carries. The iPod took a while to be ubiquitous too, but this is much more impressive so far than the iPod was at the time.

The ipod became ubiquitous due to lower priced models that opened the floodgates.
I have a hard time seeing an iPhone Mini being offered at half the price in the near future.
But I agree. Apple DID manage to revolutionize the phone in an already mature market - that's a pretty impressive feat right there.
But to be ubiquitous, we'll need to see the mini, nano and shuffle equivalent in an iphone. I don't see this happening, but Jobs ALWAYS has something up his sleeve.

I have yet to be excited about any Apple product outside of computers. I just don't have a lifestyle that invites the use of this other stuff.

Will probably make a ton of $ for Apple, as it continues it's morphing into another electronic toy maker.

I agree. In just one day, the idea of hauling around separate devices for your cell phone, MP3 player, and internet access seems SO lame and well, old-fashioned : )
When people realize that they can have a cell phone, video iPod, a viable web browser and email wherever there is wireless access, all packed into one small, sleek and easy to use device, there won't be a lot of debate about whether to get it or not.
Of course, this assumes what we have been told about the iPhone so far is true and what we have heard about Cingular service is not true!

WOW!! I can have a cell phone, video iPod, a viable web browser and email wherever there is wireless access, all packed into one small, sleek and easy to use device!!!
But $600?? No thanks. And to me, web browsing and email aren't exactly viable without a keyboard - a REAL keyboard. Now if I had endless amounts of disposable income, that's be a different story...
