Catalytic Converter Stolen
#31
You didn't hear a grinder in the night? Or is it attached by hose clamps or something like that?

Yea, keywords , "unless you are in California"...... if you look online for a Catalytic Converter, you will see many at a good price. But it will say good in 49 States. Guess which state requires a little bit better converter... Yep, California.

Lived here all my life, Love the weather, and I'm down South, so I see the sun more often than the North.

Both my Daughter and my Son, can park their Prius in their garage at night....

Has nothing to do with a better converter. It has to do with who contributed to which politicians. The replacement catalytic converters meet spec and will test the same or better than OEM.
It's the CARB certification. It isn't cheap.

Is it platinum or palladium? I thought it was the latter.

Early cats were platinum. Newer ones are palladium or a blend.

Outside of CA I'd just straight pipe it.

In the past I've added a 'spacer' to the downstream O2 sensor to ensure the check engine light would no longer trip once the cat got some age on it.

Dude... it's a '94... it's not going to pass any modern Smog test anyway.

Someone cut the cat off my sweet beater van--1994 Dodge (2B7HB21Y4RK128802) last night.

It's not much to look at but if you need something moved it's a heck of a great vehicle to have.

Dealer wants $600 just for the converter and $1200 for a complete exhaust--just in parts.

This is suck.

Bummer.

I don’t think older cars have to meet current Smog requirements, just the ones appropriate for their age. My ‘87 vehicle passes Smog just fine.

1994 Dodge; seems that would classify as "antique" in most states.
(It's 25yo in DE & VA, 20yo in MD)
"Antique vehicles" are usually exempt from emissions testing, yes?

Oh I heard it. I just thought it was someone doing body work on my van in the middle of the night in March in Minnesota.

Here is an idea: try to make your tiny little brain consider that the van was at a third location and not sitting outside my house.
