I have always used the literal definition of right winger - those on the right side of the isle. I've never used it to describe extremists. All repubs are right wingers by my definition.
Nixon was a Republican Centrist who defied the party in 1968 to establish his own platform.
Nixon was still a centrist in 1960, though still riding on Eisenhower coat-tails, in 1960 - no longer identifying
himself or his actions with “Right Wing” witch hunts or the “Liberal Elite” - of which, he could very well have
been a “member of” had he been able to accept the Harvard scholarship for law school during the sickness
of a family member, and instead skipped it for the family. Duke came next - and that’s where he went.
Remember “Democrats for Nixon” - and who was the face of that movement??
Then again, Goldwater is the very definition of “Conservative” - and it never had anything to do with
“religion” - but the “Right Wing” since 1976 and building, up to the 1980 election, was fostered to provide
both an overzealous voice of “conservative right wing” individuals and a voice in policy making, via the
likes of Robertson, Falwell, etc., carried out by Ed Meese - as disgusting and undeserving an individual
to hold the office of Atty General as was Ashcroft (lose to a dead man in the 2000 Senate race in Mo.) for Bush 43.
"Let’s be sure and cover up all them statue t!ts!! By God — what will the children think if they see them?
Put blinders on them so we can let them know justice is blind! Or get that b!tch with the scales a towel!!”
Add to that the “Chicken Hawk” - send them 18 year olds off to war… but not me, not when I was their age
and there was an active war ongoing — I found my way out no matter WHAT it involved!” - but don’t worry
about THEIR deaths — you can save all the conceptions refuse to adopt them once born, and cut funding
for the poor that didn’t want to have the kid in the first place, then b!tch about ADFC - for the kids you
forced be born… or at least are trying to control!!
THAT is what a Right Winger is… and why I changed from the Michael J. Fox character, from when I was
18 (right at the same time) despite voting for Ronnie, but was horrified by Meese and team. It wasn’t until
1998 that I became an ‘Independent’ - after watching Rush Limpig & Newt Gingrich turn the nation on its
heels, despite their own ongoing hypocrisy, with rampant illegal drug use that anyone else would have
been sentenced to 20 years or more for C-II substance & Rx fraud by the former, and the ongoing affair
while making the USA a laughing stock worldwide - as he moved from wife #2 (not pretty enough to be
First Lady) to the girlfriend - cheating on the second of two wives while creating the same public forum
for someone else (and has since been called out for cheating on the THIRD wife while running for the
nomination - by the campaign manager who resigned in disgust over his oral sex escapes outside of a
fund raiser, with the wife of one confidant performs oral sex in plain view, in the car outside the building,
while the husband and his own wife are inside said building.
Typical hypocrisy of RIGHT WING FAMILY VALUES ~~ “I have sinned against you!” whether it’s the TV
preachers who demand to be heard in forming the GOP platform or the hypocritical politicians who seek
out high office while cruising for airport glory-holes (Craig), under-age teens (Delay & others) or the
“Bomb them to oblivion!” fornicators who because they are “born again!” they can do no wrong — BUT YOU CAN DO WRONG.
When this party (if ever) comes back to sensibility - centrist views, fiscal management that included strong
defense (like the establishment Clinton left to Bush that cracked Iraq with 25% of the forces it took just
12 years prior - while still paying down the deficit nearly half a trillion over the final 4 years of his presidency)
then maybe I might give it a second look.
The only SLIGHTLY sane thing I’ve heard in the past decade plus from Dick Cheney (another chicken hawk
who kept filing for deferments until he ran out - and only managed to escape by getting married and
knocking up the wife… otherwise it was OFF to the military — AND HE WOULDN’T EVEN TAKE THE CHANCE
that an intelligent individual might be sent to NATO (Eur) instead of Vietnam!! — this individual, a student
of Richard Nixon, as was Bush 41, Rumsfeld, and most of the cabinet - in junior positions in their earlier
years to either Nixon himself or aids to Nixon proteges while serving in the Bush 41 office (like Condi Rice,
who was Scowcroft’s assistant for 41 during the 1989-1993 term) - CHENEY disagreed with Bush 43 on
LGBT Rights — no doubt in part because of his daughter and wider views, and said, to my astonishment,
“To me, Equal Rights means Equal Rights for everyone…” in reference to his position on “Gay Marriage.”
At least Cheney wasn’t of the Religious Right - but he clearly had an agenda and some “destiny” to fulfill,
that wasn’t present (or visible) during his tenure as a congressman (or low level Nixon aid) nor during
his term as SecDef for Bush 41.
The insanity and hypocrisy over the disclosure of Valerie Plame - after significant disagreement with her
spouse is a matter of Federal Law that had blame shifted, thinking a pardon would be forthcoming, but
ultimately, was not (a curious case of 43, and certainly not one of principle…).
The ethics and moral standards which they preached and violated as a whole ground down even those
who put them there in the first place, including James Bakker as well as 41’s stance as a sudden friend,
social pal, fundraiser for charity and EMBARRASSMENT to 43, while 41 made VERY PUBLIC his new
friendship with Clinton, as the ’04 elections neared and passed. No greater repudiation of the administration
could have been spoken, than father (a former president) to his son (the current president) making very
public appearances while 43 tried to blame Clinton for everything to do with 9/11, let alone the false
pretenses which were fed the nation as a justification for going to Iraq - something Bush 41 covered in his own
biography of the era in depth, and 41 - a CENTRIST Republican, until having to jump on the Reagan
bandwagon and brush aside his own political beliefs for that VP spot, made clear in print and by actions,
that he was not a supporter of “Junior” in his escapades - nor of his former associates then making
decisions… let alone doing so, “in the name of God” - everything from “God told me to get you a
Palestinian State” — the statement of a TV Preacher / Lunatic, (that God speaks directly to him) - not a
worthy successor to the office.
As the hardcore WASPs of America have proven time and time again, at all economic levels, what’s good
for them doesn’t have to be good for you. What “their God” wants always happens to coincide what they
also want as individuals… and whatever it is they do or say, that proves to be very wrong or discovered
as little more than intentionally deceptive, there is never an admittance of wrong, only events to overshadow
the current state of affairs, and acting in the name of “Our Forefathers” and “The Founding Fathers” -
in the name of Christianity, ALL of whom are on record as Deists, not Christians, (I’d be happy to post a
healthy list of quotes to that effect— everyone from Ben Franklin and Jefferson, to Abe Lincoln), and they
were acting in exactly the opposite manner those people would have in their time or today.
The Right Wing is exactly who The Founding Fathers warned against. Not Republicans… the ideology that
is what it now means to be a Republican (if you want to follow the platform).
Who else could seriously put forth a candidate like Santorum, and hold him up, like Bush before him, as
someone qualified for the office, let alone one that understands the Constitutional separation of Church
& the Nation State - and exempt that ideology for the convenience of THEIR religions (and uphold it
venomously when others come into play).
Eisenhower warned of the “Industrial/Military Complex.” He didn’t warn of the equally dangerous zealot
with an agenda for enriching themselves at the expense of others and at the expense of the nation.
That, ultimately, is the hypocrisy we now face, and with the rise of “Homeland Security” - the very
watch-dog,
the people of the nation with an opinion, are more and more coming under
the thumb of the power and capability of the government to suppress everything from freedom of
the press to freedom of speech and assembly.
And the people who are moving ahead with those infringements upon “the rest of us” - are not Democrats.
They are Republicans.
Republicans of the Right Wing.
