How Old Are You?
#81
38 here. I do remember watching the Original BSG as well as Galactica 1980 (ouch - that hurt to watch). I did not have any of the BSG toys, but I did have the Micronauts Battle Cruiser (the original that actually shot things out of the guns).

75 - and holding!

There's more of us geezers (65+) than there are under 25's here! Sheesh, who would have guessed!

Hell, I can remember the last time the Cubs were in a World Series ('45). Lost in 7 to the Tigers. I cried like a baby.

Remember the endless wrestling matches when TV first came out? Hours and hours of matches five and six days a week, but the "freaks" were different. They almost looked normal.

And between the matches in Chicago, they ran a beauty contest for a Miss Rheingold, Rheingold being the brewery sponsoring the contest. The gals were all the "beauties" sent by all the local pubs. So why was this notable?

The emcee was Mike Wallace of CBS when he first broke into TV! Yeah, that MW from Sixty Minutes and other TV shows.

I've always thought that if I ever run into him somewhere, I'd have to ask him if he ever expects to emcee another Miss Rheingold contest. That would be good for a few laughs.

Turned 60 last week. Sheesh! I'm surprised at the size of the 45 to 64 group! Maybe the young 'uns aren't bragging like us old farts. Here's me (the little one) about '52 with my bro who turns 65 today.

I remember my folks' old Chevy in the photo. I used to lay on the shelf behind the back seat, way before seat belts; our old Dumont B&W tv and 3 channels we got in Hawaii;sputnik; President Eisenhower; John Glenn becoming the first American to orbit the earth; Kennedy's inauguration and assassination; Annette Funicello on Mickey Mouse club, my first crush.

I remember the original Star Trek, when it originally aired. I was just a kid, 9 years old when it first started, but my dad and I watched every episode.

I was in college when Star Trek started. One of my friends was really into it. Frankly I was disappointed myself.

Gene's got me beat by a bit. I remember my mom watching the Army-McCarthy hearings on our B&W TV, I was seven or eight. Edward R. Murrow; the Jackie Gleason show, with the June Taylor dancers—lots of photography from above so you could see the patterns the dancers made; "You ain't nothin' but a Hound Dog;"Jimmy Durante—"Goodnight, Mrs. Calabash, wherever you are."
Oy. How did i get so old?

That looks like a 53 chevy with the small chrome piece ahead of the rear fender.
My mom had a 53 4 door sedan, the first year with power steering. Lots of 'guys' were impressed with how she could muscle that thing into a parking spot not realizing it had power steering.

Just saw this thread. I'm 57.

I've been at my job 31 years last Friday. A doctor I worked with called me an "old-timer" the other day. He said he just meant that I have seen a lot of changes. Ok, but it didn't make me feel any better. :oldfogey:
