iTunes question
#1
I'm sure this will be simple, but I'm not having much success.

I have an audiobook in my iTunes Library in Audible (.aa) format. It plays fine. A while ago I re-recorded it in real time into .mp3 format because I wanted a little more flexibilty in where I could listen to it. So I have the .mp3 version on my desktop. I want to import that version into my iTunes library. iTunes lets me navigate to it and doesn't give me any error messages, but the only version that shows up in the library is still the .aa version. Do I have to physically trash that version in order to import the other? That doesn't make sense because I know I've had duplicate versions of songs in there in the past.

What am I missing here?

I'm sure the import was successful but I don't think you'll find it in the Audiobooks section. Just check the main Music listing.

Duplicate songs are no sweat. In fact they can become problematic.

But there's some secret tag or special sauce that makes a file an audiobook, and it goes beyond the .aa suffix. It didn't (doesn't?) get copied over in the transition.

I've recorded several books from CD to mp3 and tried to make them show up in the Audiobook section, but have been completely unsuccessful.

There was a thread at macosxhints awhile back that addressed the question, but I don't remember the answers. There may have been a reference to Doug's Scripts about converting them or adding bookmarks, whatever.
