Garage update

This is an update to this thread:

After a long, windy and rather frustrating weekend...

Here is a picture with the truss rafters in place...

Saturday morning, I was up in the trusses setting the spacing and fell from about 10' down to the concrete floor. Rafters were wet and I lost my footing. I hit my arm very hard coming down. I think I must have reached out to grab the bottom of the truss before hitting the floor. Forearm was completely black and blue. A cardboard box broke my fall or I'm pretty certain I would have broke my leg.

I sat there kind of dazed for a few minutes before I brushed myself off and went right back up in the rafters.

As of Wednesday evening we are at this point (had to take a few days off to get some paying work finished):

Roof sheathing is nailed down. It started to rain at dark on Wednesday and hasn't stopped yet. I should have got the tar paper down but I was told that the rain wouldn't hurt the sheathing.

Tomorrow, I have to work on the ridge boards on the gable ends, trim up the roof sheathing, and then start prepping the roof to put down the shingles.

I used to do construction for a living about a lifetime ago. Obviously, a lot younger and dumber. Shook the pain off quickly back then. Now, I need a day or two to recover from a long weekend.

I think you should have made it bigger ... just a little bit ...

not sure of the scale. 2 single car bays with tall doors, and a shop area on the right? Nice. I wish my second detached garage were about 6' wider.

Hey, be careful! The number one cause of death for carpenters is falling.

Looks like it's coming along nicely though. You should be enjoying that extra space real soon now.

Very nice progress, but please be more careful. You won't get it finished if you are laid up in the hospital.

The doors are 9' wide by 8' tall. I've got an older skid loader that comes close to 8' high with its cab.

The extra room off to the right is going to be my shop area.

There's also another overhead door on the east side of the garage so I can bring the mower, skid loader or other vehicles in or out without having to move the cars out of the way.

I will have to be more careful. I want to be around to enjoy the garage.

The tired part of me wishes I could have hired out the building of the garage. But I am very happy to finally have a garage.

Yeah, wow, that thing is huge. Are you starting your own volunteer fire department? :-)

Land must be really cheap there...

As I said in the previous thread, I think that garage has a bigger footprint than my entire house.

Looking good.

I'm doing a similar 28x36. Rafters instead of trusses and three bays on the front .
Hole gets dug as soon as the septic system passes. (4 foot foundation, here)

Shingles are slippery when wet, too.
I've torn off a gutter and landed on wet soft grass just 8 feet. Much better than a cardbboard box and trying to grab something on the way down.

Wish I had the time to do it all myself.
I even like the finish carpentry.
