SOS - Gmail and the zombie messages that will not delete
#1
I've got a couple of "standby" gmail accounts that I use when my @me mail is acting up. They're not used too much, but my clients know what they are in case of problems.

The problem I'm having is this: I've got a score of old messages that simply will not delete/erase. They're all to to my gmail accounts in question. I've tried everything on the help menu @ gmail, including deleting the account (in Mail.app) and re-creating it. The zombies keep coming back. I've clicked delete, dragged them to the gmail trash in Mail, etc. They always come back.

FWIW, they do not show up on my gmail page in my browser. Only in Mail.app.

Any thoughts/solutions? I'm getting ready to just dump them and set up an emergency account somewhere else (like Yahoo or similar).

My excite mail is the cleanest of the bunch. My excite page is most worthless but the mail is spam free.

Excite won't let me set up access via Mail.app unless I upgrade to their premium account. Thanks, though.

Went ahead and axed the gmail accounts from Mail; they're rarely used anyway and I'll just check them for a while online to be sure there's no regular mail to them.

It's not an uncommon glitch according to a number of threads I've found via Google (somewhat ironically).

They will likely show up in Gmail. On my browser-based gmail, it says, on the left-hand side, "8 more". Yours may have a different number. Under this link you'll find "All Mail". Click on that and see if your never-deleting emails show up. Mine did. Deleted them from the browser-based interface, and they were automatically (and finally) deleted in Mail.
Hope this helps.

martin -- thanks; I tried that over the last week and nothing shows up in any option. According to Gmail, they're all deleted, but they keep rising from the dead and re-populating my Mail.app gmail box each time.

Ah, well. Went ahead and (a) Removed all gmail accounts from Mail.app, (b) Downloaded Gmail Notifr via MacUpdate, © profit!

Now, no zombie messages any more in Mail.app and I have an alternate way to see if there's new Gmail while I'm at my Mac. And, again, since it's a secondary account anyway, it's not a big issue.
