S/O tells me yesterday that the CF card isn't going into the camera. Turns out some pins were bent. (notice I didn't say she bent some pins) DId some googling yesterday and apparently this is somewhat common on the Rebels. I managed to straighten the pins out last night and card now slides into the slot but I'm getting a blinking ERR CF message when I power up. I'm guessing some pins have shorted and that it's going to have to go in for repair.
S/O can't understand how it could have possibly happened. :dunno:
(sigh) :banghead:

You would be better of selling it as is with the noted condition on ebay than paying for a repair that will take 2-4 weeks. The price you would get for the body plus repair would probably be close. You could also take this chance to get a Rebel t1i with video mode and SD card where no pins can be bent by your spouse...er...mysterious causes.
Refurb t1i is $629 for the body

Was the card damaged? Maybe try it with another card to see if that helps.

Yes I tried with second card. Same thing and it cannot format.

When I worked at an Apple repair shop a few years ago we would get an occasional bent pin on an ADC connector that would cause the computer to not start up, although rarely would people realize that the pins were even bent.
Easily fixed though, just straighten out the pins and and bent plastic bits on the female end and it was good to go. Unfortunately that's not the case here.

Ouch...I'd be horrified to find the pins of my D300 bent.
How significant is your S/O? Enough to weather this storm? ;-)

I know it's a few generations older than the Ti but if it's a recent purchase send it in anyway. That's what I did in 2004 when my Digital Rebel had the same, uh, mysterious problem.
But like pRON said, if you have to PAY for it think twice due to its value.
You might also check out XS and XSi models. They too use SD cards. The last Rebel to use CF was XTi. (Comparisons on all these may be found all over.)

Camera was a Christmas present to her last year. Only about $265.
I will keep her. Besides, she wants to buy me a way more expensive one this Christmas.
