Ft. Hood: Obama's 9/11?

I think you might actually want to reassess your reaction. When political discourse (and I use that term quite loosely in this case) can include this sort of rhetoric and be deemed common place, one ought to carefully consider who one's fellow travelers are.

August-
I think you'll find that my position is not one of 'defending' Dakota, but merely pointing out that the best way for political discourse to degrade into political intercourse is to get emotionally reactive to emotional content. I tend to ignore the trigger phrases and try to find the real issue behind the hubbub.

And if I can't find the issue, I usually avoid the discussion. IMHO, you're all my fellow travelers, whether I agree with opinions or not. I'll willingly talk to just about anyone about darn near anything. I learn the most amazing things as a result !

This is what happens when people argue with me for the sake of argument. You fall behind the curve. This is what David Brooks, David Brooks, writes today.

So immediately the coverage took on a certain cast. The possibility of Islamic extremism was immediately played down. This was an isolated personal breakdown, not an ideological assault, many people emphasized.

A shroud of political correctness settled over the conversation. Hasan was portrayed as a victim of society, a poor soul who was pushed over the edge by prejudice and unhappiness.

If public commentary wasn’t carefully policed, the assumption seemed to be, then the great mass of unwashed yahoos in Middle America would go off on a racist rampage.

He is talking about this forum.

And engaging said a$$hole accomplishes what? He'll be back tomorrow with an even more outrageous post. I'm with cbelt on this one. Ignore him and move on.

If I had the time and inclination, I'd map out the conversational flow of this thread. Something like:

"A is like B."

"No; they are different in scale and execution."

"But you said B."

"Yes."

"So A is like B."

"No."

"You're all liars and tools, and you can't make me go."

Etc.

I did a pretty good job today, also.

Trouble is, some folks want this forum to be a place to discuss and learn and some treat it as a throwaway and would welcome the temporary diversion from their featureless workday if it crashed and burned and they got to watch. You're not going to convince the latter group to starve a troll.
