Why Woot, Why? Warning and Whining
#1
At the last Woot Off, we ordered the Dyson Canister Vac DC21. It arrived Friday DOA. The beater bar stops turning after about 10 seconds, requiring that you push the power button again and again.

Per Woot's terms, we contacted the manufacturer, Dyson. They had been flooded with calls that day over the failure of hundreds of Woot vacuums. There were no service centers in our area, so it would require shipping...at our expense. Dyson put the blame back in Woot's corner, saying that all 300 vacuums were working when they shipped to Woot.

So you can't call Woot to talk about it, so we emailed for an RMA and a request for prepaid return shipping label. Their reply was to send an RMA but denied the request for a shipping label.

It's not like we just don't like it. It's not just that our vacuum was defective. Dyson claimed they had received hundreds of calls on Friday regarding the Woot vacuums.

Yes I have read the Woot terms of service but this is about the implied warranty of merchantability. The sold something that clearly does not function for its intended purpose. I let them know that if they did not provide a shipping label, I would dispute the entire charge with my CC company.

Did they also mention anything about the check being in the mail or that they promise they will still love you in the morning?

Yeah...Mrs Markintosh made that call. I definitely would have been more assertive. The guy on the other end was clearly done with talking about Woot vacuum failures. Apparently this is not the first time that there have been issues bewtixt Woot and Dyson.

This is why I don't buy refurbs except for cheap disposable items.

I don't think this is Woots' problem.

Dyson ships 300 vacuum cleaners to Woot, and Woot does something to screw them up?! All 300? Was there water damage to the box? I can't image what Woot would have done to kill all 300. I wouldn't be surprised if Dyson mistakenly (yeah, I'll give them *some* benefit of the doubt) sent 300pcs that were known to be not worth refurbing and meant to be euthanized.

Dyson is the big weasel here, methinks.

I am pretty sure that Dyson said that Woot did the refurbing and packing on these.

my Crapdar is on Dyson overload.
  • Woot probably doesn't ship anything, they use a logistics contractor*.
Thus Dyson woudn't have "shipped to Woot".
  • Dyson only supplied 300 'working' vacs yet they stated "failure of hundreds of Woot vacuums"?
  • No surprise, Dyson's lawyers are frequently invited to FTC Hearings!
*The last few Woot shipments I got came out of UPS {PA} or FedEx {TN} distribution centers.
