I watched a really good PBS documentary (Frontline: Sick Around America) on this situation the other day. If you have a netflix subscription you can access it online for free (or probably at PBS without needing netflix).

Its online here and free.

Would anyone here feel guilty eating a massive meal in front of a room full of people who had NOTHING to eat?

I know I would.

That's the USA and the much of the rest of the world. Fat pigs not sharing with those they don't think do anything to earn it.

Really human, huh?

Not sharing or caring, huh? Who shows up first when disaster strikes? French Navy? They have their chance now but I won't hold my breath.

From what I saw living in Germany decades ago the system is nice if you're in it (you are native born & have a full-time job).

It was not so great for the university grads who didn't have the connections to get a job, nor for the Turkish "guest" workers.

Isn't the same here?

No, there are millions of US citizens without coverage. Universal health care is the only way to ensure that every citizen is covered.

Universal coverage for food is the only way to stamp out hunger. Anybody working on that?

Good question dakota. Mr Downtown answered it quite succinctly. Would you agree to a similar program for healthcare that we have for food?
