I think that $600 would be the low end to expect to pay for this and that would probably have 0 profit margin. But if they are looking at the 'gillette' business model then the apps, music, ebooks...and 'one more thing' are where the profits are.

I think that it is interesting to see some of the interesting decisions that the platform forced/allowed them to make. Some of the screenshots in the demos show keyboards that are specific to the application. Working in Numbers, you get a 10-key keyboard. Working in Pages you get a qwerty keyboard. That does present some interesting opportunities and the potential to introduce frustration as well.
