I have a theory about Shakeman...

NS,

I have often called this side of the forum "occupied territories". You often see references to "we" have to do this or that or hey guys lets ignore him. This side was exploding with posts during the Bush years. Now, it is on life support.

Did you say "forum on life support"?

DealMac "Spirited Discussion" does seem to be alive and well.

I don't frequent that site, but I just thought I would point it out since you pointed out the apparent lack of posts on the rest of said site's rooms.

Alive, perhaps. As far as the "well" is concerned, well... Have you seen the new movie "Shutter Island"?

Just curious-- when did you come to the macresource forum and how did you find it?
I'm not in the camp that thinks new folks should be burned at the stake (hi davester) but I would like to gauge how much of the Shakeman show you've seen before responding.

Black,

A friend named Tom pointed out the forum to me.

I used to enjoy lurking here and watching the political debate. For a long time there was a single person here who tended to use the term "idiot" frequently and he was mostly ostracized because he couldn't keep it friendly.

After he was booted, I started to notice some folks on the opposite side of the political spectrum from the "bootee" took up the same practice of unfriendliness.

No one seemed to be calling for these people to stop...
Thanks, NS-- did Tom point you directly to this side for the political stuff? Are you a mac user? Just curious as to whether new folks are finding this forum, or if it's the same old crew from dealmac.

It sounds like you're referring to a conservative poster who was "booted?"
I honestly can't remember anyone being booted because of their political side participation, only someone who had a little meltdown and left with one of those big dramatic goodbyes that pretty much guarantees they'll be back.

I can recall (I think) three posters who have been banned from this site mostly due to their "Tips" participation-- BGnR most recently (although he was only given a temporary suspension-- he chose to stay away), chas_m, and . . . was elmo here for a while and canned or am I thinking of the old place?

The root of the problem is that there are a few tireless "conservative" posters here who don't realize they drive others of their ilk away by making it too embarrassing to be associated with them.

I thought that forum consisted solely of people who had been banned from appleswitcher and macresource (notably Steve G and Furious Styles sockpuppets) and assorted and sundry hecklers. Which reminds me...dare I ask what happened to Lafayette Pete/Canwit Stinger/assorted other sockpuppets?

How is it possible to get banned from appleswitcher?

It's pretty much anything goes there.
