It's the 3rd time in 9 months when my Verizon Copper line is out. WTF???
I keep it only for emergencies. Screw them.

I once called the Department of Public Utilities (in Massachusetts) to report Verizon for not fixing my landline phone line. It worked! Got the darned thing fixed once and for all. I keep it for making 911 calls only. Don't have any long distance coverage on it because we use our cell phones for that. But cell phones suck for emergency 911 calls, so we keep it only for that reason.

My landline with AT&T went out last year for 2 days. It was the first time in almost a decade that it happened. Having it going out on a 3 day weekend really sucks. They likely will not fix it until Tuesday unless there is at least one other customer on the same rack complaining.
My power from PG&E goes out about every four months almost like clockwork, but rarely for more than 6 hours.

I called myself from another phone (VOIP, Cell) and I get a busy signal as well. I am 100% sure it's not on my side. In fact I heard the noise on the line a few days ago and I knew something is wrong. Same thing happened last time, got lots of noise on the line and eventually the line went dead.

Was it a GTE-wired area before Verizon?
