Why do we still have CD and DVD drives?

They will disappear when TVs can play flash media.

The problem is what do you do with all of the CDs and DVDs that have family pictures and movies. Today they are played on separate players. You still rent DVD movies. Many electronic items come with digital disks for set up.

I think it will be a few years before they begin to disappear.

I agree.

The sooner they go the better.

I think it is cool that you can buy the mini like this already.

You can easily have have an external laying around for those times you need it.

I prefer external CD/DVD drives too. They seem to be much more reliable as well as faster.

I've never had a CD or DVD get stuck in a tray loading external...

Because Apple has been trading speed, for style and expense ever since they went with slot loading drives. $26 for a 24x tray loading versus $50 for a 8x slot loading at Newegg.
