It's financing deals that are pushed then, to snag a few buying on impulse for the big game.

The thing is that a lot of these low end bargain TVs are not going to very good picture quality. For me I'd
rather pay more for a top notch picture than have a bargain TV but that's just me.

The $280 32" no-name LCD at Radio Shack looked pretty good to me showing Avatar Blu-ray.
As for how long it will last that's why Square Trade is in business.

Go take a look at a Vizio 42" 240Hz LED with local dimming and 10,000,000 to 1 Contrast Ratio and you'll be willing to pay the $800 price tag. As soon as my sister saw it that was it, she didn't want to see anything else. It blew my old set away by so much that we bought the 55" in the same series. It's that good! I was completely satisfied with my 50" Sony LCD projection until I saw these, I had already told my myself that I was not going replace it until I found somthing that much better well I found it ;-)
