I've posted a few things about the problems my wife was having with her new 4S. Battery wasn't charging to 100%, running down really fast, etc. She tried everything on Apple's page about battery issues, as well as the one on Macworld.com. The genius at the Apple Store ran a diagnostic a couple of times and got different results both times, so he just decided to replace it. Took all of 15 minutes from walking in, to us leaving with the new phone. So if you're still having issues with yours, it might be worth a trip to your local Apple Store.

I'm wondering if there is some issue when importing contacts and iCloud that keeps the phone constantly fetching data.
Read a couple of places where the solution is set the phone up as new rather than restoring from backup.
Thankfully, I didn't have this issue and hope your new phone is fine.
