Good site to see the directions and distance to your TV towers http://www.antennaweb.org/aw/welcome.aspx

HDTV Digital channels are on the UHF band.

I made that antenna as well for my EyeTV Hybrid & it works better than anything else I've tried.
Yes, 2-bay bowties (that diy is like a far smaller 4228, smaller than also the 4224 and similar designs) can be quite effective unless the location is prone to multipath issues, and of course in most bowties won't pickup VHF if you need that. The new 4228 linked above is controversial primarily because it's not quite as well made as the original 4228, and also because many have this feeling that CM shouldn't have fixed what was generally thought to not have been broken...however the new design should be better for hi-VHF, an original 4228 strength of sorts (relative to other UHF-only antennas).

I recently switched out my Winegard 7697 for the AntennasDirect 91XG. I may soon be getting a Winegard 1713 to pickup the two hi-VHF stations I want. I'm about 40mi. out from the towers but needed a "75mi+" solution on a 10ft. mast, and have my location and circumstances to thank for it. I have some threads at the highdefforum link above that go into more sordid detail.

This indoor antenna is a ~8" square and 1/2" thick black 'plate' that works best when simply laid flat. It is completely non-directional, i.e. no orienting is necessary or even beneficial. It works very well.:

The original version of that antenna is fantastic but the revised model shown not so much:

AA, outstanding information at those links.

Navigating what's left of that site is a chore, though. I couldn't find those pages when starting from the http://www.hdtvprimer.com home page.
