I would think that any news of flying away from where YOU reside (HI) would be pretty far down the Polynesian totem pole of news to keep abreast of.
![]() J/K - My dad lived/stationed on Oahu for 2 years and said he could not wait to leave. lol Why don't we have non-profits/NGOs/Not-for-profits/Charities/subsidized travel for more than commuter-related and/or Amtrak? I've often thought/pondered about a not-for-profit car dealership - think "Credit Union" model of business, or such. shrug On a related note, the TSA wants in on a cut of this money....pay THEM for your baggage, not the airlines. http://consumerist.com/2011/03/tsa-propo...-bags.html

Well... I was stuck in Maui for almost 28 years. I first visited Oahu in August of 1968. Sad to say:jest: that first visit created a virus and an addiction to fragrant flowers and warm ocean breezes.
Living in the Islands does help one to escape many of life's realities and experience some remote laissez-faire. Airline Co-Op's could work...... maybe ![]() ![]()

When I visit hawaii (kauai) I love going for a morning walk in the perfect weather they seem to have almost every day. The condo I stay at has a view of the ocean from a cliff and I enjoy doing my stretches and morning exercises while looking out the window. Visiting a beach or park for the day and finding that it isn't packed full of people is also great. I've been continually surprised at the friendliness of the residents and the variety of places they come from. I really enjoy the small town feel and I only travel a few times a year so the confines of an island don't concern me as much as it does some people.
Now I have seriously considered buying a unit at the condo we stay at and living there part of the year but I have concerns. I'm not sure how easy it would be to make friends and I'm not sure how easy it would be to get into or be accepted at a local church. The only big city amenity that I think I would miss is the ability to go to the theatre or to concerts. Oh, and the beer in hawaii sucks so I'd have to continue homebrewing. One of the things that I REALLY like a about visiting hawaii is that it becomes so clear that I just don't need all this STUFF that I've accumulated. I've been trying to take that to heart and shed shed shed things. I suspect what I will eventually do is much more stereotypical. I will probably spend part of the year in AZ (which has surprisingly many sailing opportunities) and continue to vacation on kauai. It would be nice to buy that condo that I enjoy so much though...ramble ramble ramble |
