So, we're going to be buying an 11" macbook air for the wife, she prefers the smaller size of the 11" screen and the smaller SSD drive is fine as no photos, music, or movies will be stored on the laptop.
However, I am interested in getting 4B of RAM as opposed to the stock 2GB, because I would like things to run absolutely as fast and smoothly as possible, at all times, and I know you can't upgrade on your own. I am also interested in buying an apple refurb machine to save money, I have always had good experiences with them.
When I look at current stock of refurbs, they have 11" models with the smaller SSD and 2GB of RAM (at a great price of $850), and then a much more expensive refurb, an 11" model with the 128GB SSD and 4GB of RAM. I imagine this higher end costs much more because it has the larger SSD drive with space we don't need, in addition to the extra RAM.
So, I wanted to check if anyone knows if an 11" air with the smaller SSD drive, but with the larger amount of RAM, is a "special order" kind of thing, and if so, are special orders allowed to be returned by customers and thus show up as refurbs? I don't want to waste time checking each day for a refurb configuration that someone could tell me will never show up. If that was the case, I'll bite the bullet and buy new (reluctantly).
Thanks!
