Macbook Air 11", 64 gig SSD, 4GB RAM, is this config ever available as a refurb?
#1
So, we're going to be buying an 11" macbook air for the wife, she prefers the smaller size of the 11" screen and the smaller SSD drive is fine as no photos, music, or movies will be stored on the laptop.

However, I am interested in getting 4B of RAM as opposed to the stock 2GB, because I would like things to run absolutely as fast and smoothly as possible, at all times, and I know you can't upgrade on your own. I am also interested in buying an apple refurb machine to save money, I have always had good experiences with them.

When I look at current stock of refurbs, they have 11" models with the smaller SSD and 2GB of RAM (at a great price of $850), and then a much more expensive refurb, an 11" model with the 128GB SSD and 4GB of RAM. I imagine this higher end costs much more because it has the larger SSD drive with space we don't need, in addition to the extra RAM.

So, I wanted to check if anyone knows if an 11" air with the smaller SSD drive, but with the larger amount of RAM, is a "special order" kind of thing, and if so, are special orders allowed to be returned by customers and thus show up as refurbs? I don't want to waste time checking each day for a refurb configuration that someone could tell me will never show up. If that was the case, I'll bite the bullet and buy new (reluctantly).

Thanks!

I would say that it probably wouldn't be available as a refurb. But I would think that Apple would lump the 4GB models in with the 2GB models and some people would get silent upgrades.

That model you linked to (now out of stock of course) is exactly what I am looking for, so it's good to see that you are all correct that this config does show up, at least sometimes.

I know there is a model available right now with 4GB, but it also gives you the 128GB SSD drive and as far as I can tell it's a $250 premium over the $930 model that cam,e and went. I'd feel really silly to pay $250 for an extra 64 gigs of storage my wife just won't use in her normal usage habits.

Does anyone know of a way to get automatic email alerts when new refurbs hit the store? I am on email throughout the day and I had gotten an alert when that $930 model popped up, I could have jumped on it about as quickly as anyone else. I did find a dashboard widget that shows you refurb stock and can look at the airs specifically, but I still have to remember to go to the dashboard and check, so that's not as good a solution.

Thanks!
