I got my iMac, I got my Orange Crush.

Just got back from the Apple Store with my mid-2007 iMac.

They replaced:

logic board
audio board
video card
power supply (with pressure wall!)
hard drive cable
memory access door (I left it off when checking the RAM

There are a few original parts left. 90 day warranty. Almost surprisingly they didn't say it was the RAM, although it was listed on the original estimate.

Supposedly this model will handle 6G of memory, but I don't think it's really worth swapping out a 2G stick for a 4G.

BUT- when I started it up, I noticed some darkish horizontal banding almost the full width of the display. I called the Apple Store up, they said "Bring it in, we'll take care of it, no charge."

So it's back to the Store, and I hope it doesn't cost me.

It will be (basically) a new Mac before you know it . . . Maybe the savings on this Mac will allow you to get the other Mc . . . :dunno:

Sorry to hear about your ongoing troubles.

Well, Apple seems to be very helpful, so this is more annoyance than trouble.

Fortunately I have a Mac or two already in use. The iMac has been lying fallow for some time.

But- a 27" i7 is on the horizon., and it's moving in fast.

The horizontal banding is likely because they have a cable routed improperly that is putting pressure on the back of the display. Probably an inverter cable. See that every once in a while. They will get you fixed up I'm sure.

And they couldn't start up the mac one last time to make sure it was working OK?

Beats me. They also replaced half a dozen parts....there is usually only one bad part.
