Check out this hospital-wide Lion warning that just went out
#1
Just received this email from our computer support folks:

.......

It has come to our attention that there are devices within the organization running the latest version of Mac OSX 10.7, a.k.a. Lion. This version of OSX is currently incompatible with our file servers. This incompatibility is causing the file servers to crash and disrupt access for everyone.

We are working to remediate this issue however we request that if you are currently using OSX 10.7 (Lion) on your workstation to please refrain from using the file servers until Monday, July 25th. Communication will be sent out once the issue is resolved.

I've heard of PCs crashing when attempting to connect to Macs running Lion. Not the other way 'round until this thread.

I recall the Finder locking up (or at least the connecting dialog box) when attempting to connect to some errant server pre-Snow Leopard.

Is this similar? Windows is locking up its Explorer file manager, or the whole OS goes tits up?

In the cases that I've heard of, the PC throws an obscure error message that won't go away and trying to dismiss it eventually causes Windows to lock up.

Other people get an error about lack of permission to access the resource and that error message apparently can be dismissed.

'Not sure what makes the difference between connecting, getting an error and getting an error with a crash. It's all secondhand at this point.

LION seems to be crashing more than servers:

Why would IT let untested systems onto the network? That's weird.

My guess is that it's a hospital that's part of a university and the folks with macs on the networks are academicians and researchers who are used to a lot of freedom.
