Any recommendations for places to stay in the Dominican Republic?
#1
We are considering going to the DR in December. It would be me, my husband, and adult daughter. Probably staying about 5 nights just before Christmas. I have never been to the DR and would welcome suggestions for nice places to stay. All inclusive or not, just a nice place. Not 5 star prices, but not slumming it either. There seem to be a lot of choices and I am having a hard time deciding which would be best. Thanks in advance.

I went to the DR about 15 years ago. We stayed in Casa de Campo on the north side of the isle.
I was touring at the time with the favorite son.

Not to dash your idea, I'd never go back to the DR again.
Poverty was painful, begging from the moment I stepped out of the airport until I got in the crew bus and the same back. The entire way to Casa was filed with corrugated tin shacks.

I'm sure things have changed alot, but I'd suggest some research before you book.

I has been my least favorite place in the Caribbean except for Jamaica, for the same reasons.

I also suggest exercising caution.... There are many other very nice tropical areas to visit.

This may also be helpful *(:>*

The Club Med in Punta Cana is the nicest one I've stayed at, and has a great spa.

I won't be going there without Sammy Sosa in tow.

We stayed at the Majestic Elegance in Punta Cana for a few days last year, got a cheap price from bookit.com (and excellent service from Bookit, too).

Nice enough, but we aren't in any hurry to go back there.

OK. Thanks for the tips and warnings. I was a little wary of the DR also, but my husband and daughter seemed to want to go. I will see if there are some other possibilities for a warm spot in December.

Maui ~!~ December is the second month of the Humpback wintering season in Maui. They return every year to Breed and Calve. One needs to book early if you want to visit there in December . Rain is also a possibility during this time of year.
