Will USA iPads work in Brazil?
#1
Just want to double check with folks here. My company is going to buy iPads here in the US for a giveaway promo in Brazil. I imagine they will be just WiFi but I'm not sure.

I read online some people said 3G will work with a sim from the country. Can anyone confirm? And what about WiFi? I would imagine that would work there. Correct?

I would suggest that they talk to Apple about it. What you're doing is creating 'grey market' products. The recipient may have issues getting support from Apple do Brasil.

Actually, they should work fine (the Wi-Fi model) and support is international from what I can tell.

The big issue might be that I have heard that Apple is now disallowing iPads to be used in contests or giveaways.

I just read up on the apple site. Looks like the AT&T 3G version will work with in country sim. Brazilian carrier ViVo will offer sims: http://ipadwatcher.com/2010/05/26/brazil...s-in-june/.

WiFi should work with no problems but will need a plug (not voltage) adapter to charge. I did read where there might be warranty issues but I wouldn't think they would be considered grey market as they are not being sold, they are being given away. Maybe that is not correct - I will look into it, thanks!

Actually the Apple's Guidelines for Third Party Promotions doesn't say you can'y use them for giveaways. It merely says certain things that apply to the promotion. People there are commenting that the article is misleading.
