Nosy Saturday Poll: Didja say 'Buh Bye' to Netflix recently ?
#11
I just reduced from 3 out to 2 out at a time, to keep the price same. Streaming still not close enough to the quality of BDs, although can be OK for some foreign and independent movies that are never going to look great regardless of medium (although content may be excellent).

I just dropped the streaming option -- never used it because the captioning/subtitle options were too inconsistent -- and switched to a 4 disc (DVD/BD) plan.

Dropped the DVD's but keeping streaming at this time. My kids have been watching a bunch of kid programing and worth the $7.00 / month... I'm saving $2-$3 / month now...

Cbelt,

I haven't changed it at all. NetFlix still offers the best bang for the buck and features and content when compared to its competition. For those who say it doesn't offer enough streaming content, I still say phooey. If you can't find something watch via streaming, then you're not giving their catalog enough of a looksie. NetFlix has an incredible variety of video on demand. Admittedly, I'm not the pickiest when it comes to movies/TV/documentaries/etc but I _always_ find something new to watch or something to watch again. Always. Netflix offers enough that it is unlikely I'll run out of content to enjoy anytime in the near future.

We've a split family.

Daughter is dropping DVDs and keeping streaming.

Son is dropping streaming and keeping DVDs.

I convinced daughter to let us share the streaming (son is living with us, daughter at college, we had son's steaming) as we're paying for her mobile phone service.

Good luck.

I didn't cancel it, but I did choose a lower tier when they increased the price. I don't have a problem with their new prices -- it's still a good deal -- but as somebody who doesn't really use streaming, I don't appreciate that they began it as a free service, and then started charging me for it by default, making it opt-out instead of opt-in. It went from like $18 to $23, which is a 27% increase. And other people had even heftier increases.

Part of it was the principle of the thing, but at last as much was it forced me to consider whether I'd really miss anything with a more limited plan.

Watching "Cheers" in 4x3 high def and it's excellent on Time Warner with Roku HD box. I might cut back on the dvd's.

Agreed.
What the complainers don't get about streaming is -- putting aside illicit ways of getting content -- it's the best, cheap way to get content around.
Sure the DVD service (and rental stores) has wider variety, but you have to a.) wait for it, b.) if you make a bad decision, live with it.

I just streamed the biggest pile of crap (The Expendables), but the choice to stream it was painless, because I was safe in the knowledge that all I had to do was press a button and watch something else of my choosing.

Netflix streaming isn't perfect: blame the copyright holders for that, but it's a lot better than the alternatives, considering their costs.

I voted for "I have another response that I have detailed below."

Besides Netflix, I already have access to:
  • Amazon Prime streaming
  • À la carte Amazon VOD
  • Library of ripped DVDs (my own personal DVDs)
  • Crackle
  • YouTube
  • Video podcasts
  • OTA

Also have access to iTunes, but I barely use the iTunes Store for media these days, so it didn't make the official list. Figured I can go Netflix free for a couple months to see how much I miss it. I like Netflix, but with so many other services already available, the idea of saving $8/month is intriguing. Also worth noting, my current billing cycle isn't over, so don't have to make the decision for a week or two.

Added a Blu-ray player to stream Amazon Prime.
