Frankly, I'd love to automate our thermostats. But I doubt the nest would work on our main system. We have a zoned damper system with 6 thermostats (five on the main floor and one in the basement). Switching between cooling and heating is a huge pain because you have to reset each and every thermostat.
I'd pay some money for a thermostat system that could intelligently control the dampers. - W

I have a Trane thermostat as part of my Vera 2 home automation system. When I leave the house, I can put in a special code on the deadbolt that tells the heater to turn off, and turn it back on to the usual programming whenever somebody unlocks the door. Or in the morning, I can grab my iPod from the nightstand and tweak the setting from the app.
