Applepushserviced: how to stop this insidious thing?

Since updating to iTunes 10.5.1 I've been bombarded by requests from Applepushedserviced & I want it to stop!

It usually comes in the form of something like "x-courier.push.apple.com wants to connect to port x." At first I was allowing it but then I checked Little Snitch & saw that I'd allowed about a dozen with different values for x, connecting on different ports & the requests kept coming. This morning when I got up my computer was awake, waiting for a response to one of these requests. I dismissed it & there were 3 more waiting for me.

A Google search hasn't shown a way to turn this 'feature' off but it does seem that I'm not the only person bothered by it.

By allowing them all or by blocking them all? Next time either allow them all or block them all and you'll never see another one from that service.

I don't know what affect it will have on normal operation of your Mac, but if you've got a router that you can block the domains at, that might end all the chatter for that service. Maybe...

Itunes is always checking for updates and new purchases to sync - these can be turned off in itunes preferences...

I'd patiently block every new server that pops up for a few days. Eventually, you'll catch almost all of them.

Yeah. It sucks.

It spams your log files, too... tho you can disable that.

Have you updated littlesnitch recently? That stopped a lot of messages for me.

In iTunes I unchecked the box that enables it to check for available downloads.
The next time I got a request from push.apple.com I allowed it to always establish a connection on any port.

I haven't been bothered by it since then, so that seems to have put it to rest.
BTW, I'm running 10.6.8 & version 2.2.2 of Little Snitch.
