It's disgraceful what they pay their people! How can you live on this?

I'm a lot more interested in how Apple treats its lowest paid employees. Including the people making iPods in China.

He has a contract with a company that pays him thru sales of products not money from taxpayers. That's capitalism. Quit complaining, go to school, get your degree, and become a CEO.

Jobs got a buck a year AFTER they bought him a Gulfstream jet and gave him a huge pile of options in the late 90s when he went from being iCEO to permanent CEO.

The jet was akin to a cash payment up front. Without a doubt he earned whatever he made on those options in subsequent years.

This sounds similar. Less jet, more cash. I'd guess there won't be huge additional equity in his compensation going forward.

Uh oh. I wonder what the normal employee compensation is like.

Cook doesn't do it all by himself.

I would like to see everyone get a great bonus...right down to the workers in China.

Obviously, some of you are troubled by Cook's compensation (and the probable lack of compensation to overseas workers). If that is the case, beat your drum, start a campaign and stop buying Apple products to demonstrate your resolve. Perhaps this will result in mass support which will pressure Apple to make changes. Bear in mind that if it was Jobs at the helm, the answer would probably be F-Off and here's a vegan pie to suck on, but it will probably be similar with Cook (albeit without the tasteless vegan pie).

Jobs made one dollar per year and everyone acts like he was the most selfless CEO in history. He was a prick - and it's well know how much of a prick he was. He demanded stock options (that made him even wealthier than when he came back in 1997), he demanded a Gulfstream jet - and I don't know how many of you have operated a private jet but it ain't cheap! Jobs was very well taken care of while working for Apple. Cook is continuing that but without the veil of a one dollar salary.

I don't really care what Apple pays Cook. Or Jobs. Or anyone within the company. Heck, I don't care what their contractors pay their Chinese employees. This is capitalism and if I really thought that the social impact of Apple outweighed the benefit I get from using their products, I would stop buying them.

But I'm okay with Cook being paid millions, Apple HQ making a median income, Apple Store employees being paid minimum wage and being treated like dogs and overseas Chinese workers taking it in the neck - so long as I get my Apple products to help me work easier and stave off being fired from my own job while taking it in the neck for my boss...

I, and a lot of other people are not upset about what CEOs earn per se. What we rail against is what they're paid when they fail!

Leo Apotheker was canned after just 11 months on the job at HP, and how much did he earn for his unsatisfactory performance? $25 million.

His predecessor, Mark Hurd was ousted for keeping a party girl on the payroll and cooking his books to cover it up. What was his financial sacrifice?

If any employee at a mid-to lower level position at HP had performed or acted in the same manner, they would have been tossed out on their a$$ in seconds (and perhaps even prosecuted.)

The other examples of these inequities at other companies and organizations are legion.

That's why people are pissed. :villagers:

Quite well, apparently. How else would Foxconn be able to attract hundreds of thousands of workers? What else would explain why Foxconn workers have a significantly lower incidence of suicide than their fellow citizens?

With this I have no argument. It's similar to Notre Dame in football, when they succeed, I've got no problem with that success (even though that's been quite a while now). It's when they get special treatment despite being mediocre-at-best that I get pissed at the Domers...
