Just got an Apple snow router

From a neighbor who is moving and had it in a box of discards. I'm thinking it would look good on the desk next to my Apple Cube and might even be useful if I could use it as a bridge in my current Airport Extreme network, connecting my old non-wireless iMac to it by Ethernet cable. Anyone successfully added such an old piece of equipment into a more modern network?

OK, connect an ethernet cable from your network or main router to the WAN port.

Open the Airport Utility in your utilities folder.

Under the Airport tab, then under the wireless tab, set the wireless mode to "Create a wireless network"

Then in the Internet tab at the top, set the "connect using" to ethernet, and the "connection sharing" to Off (bridge mode). Then click the update button to save all your settings.

This is enough to turn the router into an access point.

Thanks for the instructions, but… I don't think that will cut it for my situation. What I want to do is connect wirelessly to my existing Apple wireless network and then connect a non-wireless computer to the Snow by Ethernet cable.

I'm already doing just that with a second Airport Extreme that lives in my media center, distributing network connections to non-wireless equipment through the Ethernet ports on the Airport Extreme (actually, more than 4 connections as I have a switch connected to one port of the Airport Extreme to service a couple extra pieces of equipment). The second router is set up to "Extend a wireless network" which is a choice not offered by the Snow, only "participate in a WDS network - which I do not want to do as I set up initially as a WDS network and it was a PITA until I switched to "Extend a wireless network."

I believe, the "cool factor" having a working retro router next to my Cube isn't worth the effort. I'll just use a USB wireless adapter on the iMac in question and call it soup. I can still keep the Snow there for looks, just unplugged.
