I'm getting regular download speeds of 20-30Mbits/sec (2.5-3.75MBytes/sec). Uploads are running at well over 1Mbits/sec. I've used several online speed meters for checking this. Subjectively, the service is VERY fast.
The dish is smaller than the very old Direcway dish I've had for years now, and the connection from dish to modem is a single cable, not two. Nice.
I'll be saying goodbye to Hughesnet effective April 30.

You mentioned before that the Modem is just a modem, and you supply the router?
Have you, by any chance, determined if the modem has a fixed external IP, or a dynamic one?
If my ever-so-long and frustrating work with a local wireless ISP bears no fruit relatively soon, I'm hoping to jump ship to Exede from Hughes, and if Exede offers a fixed IP so I can set up a VPN, I'd accelerate my plans...

Latency is running 400-500msec -- same as most any satellite system.

Yep -- you supply the router. At this moment I'm using a couple of old Buffalo WBR2-G54 set up in WDS mode to get from my office over to the house -- about 90 feet between routers as the crow flies.
I also have a couple of Netgear N300 series routers and I've got them configured in "wireless repeater" mode and will try them this afternoon to see if I can improve the speeds tot he rest of my network. They aren't bad now at 5-7Mbits/sec, but I'd like more.

The Netgear WNR3500L & WNR2000v3 pair are working well in wireless repeater mode -- the ethernet-connected laptop hung on a LAN port on the remote repeater (2000v3) runs at about 60-70% of the speed of my Mac which is ethernet connected to the 3500L base station.
Downstream wi-fi connected devices are at about half the speed of the laptop, which is as expected.
Be nice to have a couple of the dual-band N routers, but that's too much money right now.
