Backpack, Messenger or Sling

Me? No slings in my history, sorry. I would personally never ride a bike while carying anything worth a few hundred (or more) =unless= well protected and in a pannier close to the ground.

My daughter has carried her 13" MBP in her trusty backpack that she used in HS, for the last three years. I think it is a North Face. She put the MBP in a sleeve inside the backpack. If it will just last till the end of July, she will be done!!!

hmmm. i think we'll borrow my brother's laptop, grab some old textbooks off the shelf and head up to REI one day.

I'm a huge Kensington fan (my son uses their backpack for carrying his HS books - no laptop) but I can see the point of being low-key to avoid theft.

Doesn't LL Bean sell the bag he likes anymore? Get a new one, new color or maybe a similar but slightly different model?

I tried using a sling bag that someone gave me. What a PITA! (and a pain in the shoulder). I don't particularly like messenger bags either, especially if you're going to be riding a bike. They tend to slip around to the side and interfere with pedaling or throw you off balance, not to mention that they double the weight load on your one shoulder.

Backpack for sure. I have had my Brenthaven for about ten years now. I carry it daily and it shows very little in terms of wear. The zippers are fantastic and work just as good as when they were new. It also has a padded, removable sleeve that has accommodated 15" computers from the TiBook all the way to my 2010 MPB.

I can't believe his personal valet isn't going off to college w/ him, and would then be able to schlep whatever bag is decided upon...


OK, sans valet, another vote for backpack, to be on the safe side. With a 13" MBP, a padded sleeve, w/ a built-in laptop sleeve/partition in a collegiate backpack, seems like a practical solution. I'm impressed that your kid got four years out of the same backpack thru HS.
