I'm wondering what the better MBP might be for her. She seemd to prefer the bigger screen when we went to our local Mac store:
• 13-inch MBP @ $1499 with the 2.9GHz i7 processor/ 8 GB of memory/ 750GB HD
• 15-inch MBP @ $1799 with the 2.3GHz i7 processor/ 4 GB of memory/ 500GB HD with antiglare display

I'd recommend the larger screen, especially if she liked it.
We had a 13" MB and the 15"MBP we replaced it with makes all the difference in the world. It's all I use in FL when we are there for the 3 months in winter.

The only downside to a bigger screen is just carrying size. Ask her to think about carting it around, using it on her lap or a table, and how she would interact with it. Vision capability is also an issue.
I find 11" screens are too small for my old eyes on a laptop. But a 15" laptop screen becomes a big .. thing I have to cart around. And a 17" laptop ? Fuggedaboudit.

Thanks guys, I'm not one to use a laptop so my opinions might not help that much. She initially thought the 13" screen would be too small for her.
She will not be carrying it around much and will use it the majority of the time in the house. She just got a new work PC yesterday that travels with her.
I really dislike the glossy displays myself but she said it wasn't a bother to her. I wonder if that might change when put to real use.

I don't like the glossy screens. Otherwise, even me old eyes do fine on 13".

Since its not to be carried often, I'd go 15" antiglare for sure. Look in the refurbs for the Late 2011 2.2 with antiglare. IMHO, this is the sweet spot for value currently (if lack of USB 3 is not a big deal for her).

Seems that she has changed her mind (what else is new?) and now has decided on the 13" since if she does decide to carry it it will be lighter. Sez she can always get an external monitor if she needs more screen real estate.
I really hate the glossy screens on newer iMacs and MBs - I just don't see what the benefit is. I'll have to make sure she really is ok with that. Thanks all for the help.
