Any tips? I think I am going to give it a try. It could either be fine or be a big mess. ONWARD!
OT: Anyone make their own ice cream?

YES. I am not the least bit kitchen-handy, but beer ice cream is a delicious and unusual treat. It is super simple, just like the recipe says:

Keep turning, and keep adding salt to the ice.
Have family and friends ready to eat it after you make it, as it doesn't keep well.

Get an electric one or recruit 6 friends to take turns cranking!

Use one of those units with the refrigerant in the sealed bowl.
Make vanilla ice cream that is creme anglaise based.

Despite what Alton Brown says, don't make avocado ice cream

Not ice cream, but I recently made sherbet/sorbet with the Omega juicer. Not really a recipe per se, since I basically just put frozen fruit in, and so what you get out is also essentially just frozen fruit-- though you can try different fruit, so as to get different flavors, and it *was* tasty. So far, I've done banana-strawberry, mixed berry, and grapeapple.

Ok... Don't we have a forum regular who made ice cream as a summer business?
Who was it?

It's fun - and tasty!
