Speaking of Oil Change, ever use a vacuum pump system to change it?

My car is very low slung, with an inconveniently positioned drain. Even on ramps, it's a very tight fit. I made a pretty good mess last time I did it. I'm considering one of those vacuum pump systems. I'd still have to put it on ramps to change the filter, but it seems it would make for a smoother process.

Every used one? Thoughts? Brands? Models?

It's not going to remove the sludge on the bottom of oil pan.

The beauty of these are the pump is reverseable. You run the pump backwards and you can empty the bucket into 1 gallon milk jugs or old antifreeze bottles and dispose or recycle VERY easily.

If you do oil changes regularly you WON'T have sludge in your oil pan.

sludge does not get removed by a typical oil change; one would have to go in and scrape it off.

anyway: the pump system doesn't help with changing out the filter, so I'm uncertain of the purpose of the whole thing.

Sounds like your experience is pretty limited.

Many engines have filters accessed from the top of the engine. Mercedes for example. On my Buick V-8s, I can grab them from the top, and drop them right down into the drain pan. Same with many Buick V-6 rear wheel drive applications as well.

I would only use a Fumoto-style drain valve in a very protected environment, like on a marine inboard, or a genset. All it takes is to high center once, and at best you need a new oil pan.
